River Floating [Jun. 20th, 2006|11:24 am]
It was a weekend of firsts for the little pup. She isn't so little anymore tho, in two weeks she gained roughly 8 lbs, going from 14.5 lbs to 22. Josh and I traveled down to VT Friday night to see Sarah. Cardea experienced her first college party then, going from sleeping out of boredom and realizing that drunk people will encourage her to chew on them. She highly enjoyed that.

Saturday Sarah took us down to the river to a place that rents out tubes for the day and will shuttle you back in order to ride down again. Cardea had her first experience with sand, which at first she was hesitant to step on and then all about digging. Then came the water. With a little encouragement she was content to stand in it. She wasn't a huge fan of the floating part tho, probably because the water was still a bit cold for a young pup. She was always excited to get back on land, but didn't seem to be afraid of the water as she returned to standing in the water a couple times. She was just reluctant about the floating. She also had her first exposure to massive amounts of strangers, which she fully enjoyed, wanting to play with anyone who came near. She took her first bus ride fulled with tubes and people in stride, and was thoroughly pooped out by the end of the day.

Have to say we're pretty proud of our puppy. She loves people, loves to play with other dogs, and adjusts easily to any setting. There was a really loud train that went by the river side several times and at most she would just look up from her nap. Only thing we have to work on really is her chew playing and her occasional temper tantrums when she doesn't get her way.

Anyhow no pics from the river since it was impractical to bring a camera and then go river tubing to a camp site, but might get some pics of Sarah's if she send them to me.

Otherwise you can always look at various pics at flickr.com/photos/n_auds

Til next time...

Puppies and Boyfriends [May. 22nd, 2006|12:08 am]
Josh and I decided to go for it and get a puppy. Still living with his mom, she allowed it under the condition that the puppy is house trained before it comes home. Therefore Josh will be living with me during the summer, only going back Monday through Wednesday for his Summer class. I am SUPER excited. Not only am I going to get to live with Josh, a test flight of the future, we will have an adorable, if needy, puppy.

(uploaded thanks to Val)

She's a Doberman, red and rust as you can see, and we're not cropping her ears so she'll always have those. We chose the color and natural ear's because we don't want the Doberman reputation to precede her, they're really sweet dogs. Extremely loyal to their family, homebodies (they don't like being stuck in a yard), obedient, and protective of their home; viscious dobermans are products of poor ownership. We plan on socializing her as much as possible, to both people and other animals to ensure a good temperment.

She's comming all the way from Nebraska. A teacher out their owns her mother, Ruby's Red Eclipse, and father, Dictator Zeus, and breeds a litter a year, more of a hobby than anything else. Both parents are family pets. The lady has been super sweet, and after Josh assured her that the puppy would be neutered and intended as a friendly pet, she seemed to be really happy to sell her to us. ALthough our ability to get her was uncertain at the time, the lady turned down multiple calls for her, even though we had placed no deposit and it wasn't a definite sell. She told Josh that it sounded like too good a home to pass up. Her only condition was that we keep in touch with her and send many photos, which I'm certain I can provide ;).

We were looking for dog names, comming up with everything from Buddah to Gizmo. We both wanted a name to tie in with the names of her family line. Josh found the name Cardea, who was a goddess of protection of the home in Greek mythology. I absolutely love it and am smitten with Josh for taking the time to find such an great name, since he's normally not the sentimental type. We plan on pronouncing it "Car"-"day"-"ah." I'm also pleased because she can be Car for short.

Well that's what's new in the world of Auds. =)

My Baby's Growing Up! [Apr. 3rd, 2006|02:58 pm]
Denso has been growing in length right under my nose. I have been under the impression he was about 2'6", which was the size he was when Mike gave him to me. I measured him today to find he was an astonishing 3'8"! Nearly 4 feet! Looking forward to building him a larger enclosure, I just want him to be a happy boa.

Life of Pi [Mar. 30th, 2006|12:11 am]
[mood |enthralledenthralled]

READ IT!

Friggin marvelous book, it completely entrances you with an absolutely farfetched story told so well you keep flipping to the author's name to continually disapoint yourself with the fact that it isn't a true story.

The book recounts Pi's survival after a ship taking his family, him, and zoo animals to Canada sinks. He survives 277 days on a lifeboat also inhabited by a bengal tiger...like I said, farfetched. It was just an incredibly good read and you can't help wishing the adventure wouldn't end. I read it in about 5-6 hours straight. I'm still wishing it was non fiction I liked the characters so much.

Warning: Do Not Read if Opposed to Sappyness [Mar. 27th, 2006|10:22 pm]
[mood |frustratedfrustrated]

I am incredibly frustrated that I can not yet live with Josh. There's no one else I'd rather be with, and I just really wish it could be time to start an independent life together. I wish college wasn't so necessary to get above and beyond in the job market. I can't wait for the little things, like going to bed and waking up with him every day. I want to know what it feels like to be the sole person taking care of him, and the security of him taking care of me. I want to learn what it's like to live with him 24/7, to know what meals he likes, to develop favorite shows to watch together, to dream up what we want to next every night.

The other day he said something quite intuitive. He told me he loved the way I look at him because I don't look at him, I look into him. And it's true. When I look at him all I see is everything that makes me feel incredibly happy. I can't wipe the grin from my face because of it. I'm frustrated because I don't want to be constrained anymore by distance.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very well aware it's not going to be all smooth sailing, but I know with him I'm always willing to try and fix a problem. The challenges of the future do not scare me because I know when everything get's scraped away I know he has my back and I have his. He's my team mate.

(no subject) [Feb. 15th, 2006|10:06 pm]
[mood |cheerfulcheerful]

I had a pretty pleasant Valentine's Day. Josh isn't the romantic type, but being the awesome man he is, he's always willing to play along with my little plans. The previos weekend we went up to the Pentagon City Mall and he bought me a cool ring from swatch. It sorta looks like this but imagine flatten bronz circles instead. Love it =) We celebrated Monday night, Josh made us Ribeye steaks in a wine and crushed garlic sauce and I made, or attempted to make chocolate mousse from scratch. It was really good but turned out to be more of an airy pudding, but worked well as a strawberyy dip. I wish I had some more it was soooo good. We followed dinner up by watching 40 yr Old Virgin, which was quite funny. It was just nice to spend time focused on each other. We've come a long way and I can only feel lucky that he never gave up on me. Wouldn't trade what we have now for anything in the world, and I feel that everything I need from this world I can achieve with him by my side.

New Tactic [Jan. 31st, 2006|08:15 pm]
[mood |boredbored]
[music |Gotta keep em separated!]

Bored out of my mind, so I figured it was a good time to update, hopefully not boring yourself out of your mind mind as well ;).

Came up with a new tactic for trying to feed Denso, since he's become afraid of mice and their attentions. Deciding that I was no longer willing to hold them by the tail for him to strike at, I've set them up in a mini tank within the terrarium so that he can look down at them and strike at will. This way he won't be frightened of them showing him attention and he can keep a lofty position from above. The other advantage is I can keep them in relatively nonstressfull conditions, with some whater and bread while I wait it out. Hopefully Denso will get hungry enough to regain some courage. Good thing he knows they are there because he keeps sweeping over to check them out of nothing else.

My crappy diagram:
__________
|Mice|........|
|____|........|
|......Denso..|
|__________|

I guess I'll now proceed to divulge some random information about myself.

1) I play a lot of WoW, or World of Warcraft for you newbs. ;) I've got a 60 NE Hunter (Winterbourne), a 31 Gnome Warlock (Phaser), and a 45 Dwarf Priest (Eemtee), I generally play on the server Silvermoon. This occupies most of my offtime spent in my apartment.

2) I got Denso the January of my Freshman year with my bf at the time. After the break up he was the primary reason for my discontent, as seen as the child by both. I only aquired him for myself when aforementioned ex moved to AZ and released him into my care. Been a worrisome mother ever since.

3) I don't really expect to get into graduate school for either dentistry or vetrinary studies, but I do plan at least going to tech/assistant schools to get a job with one or the other for the experience and salary. Hopefully I can then move onto graduate school after that. I still can't decide if I want to go with the money(teeth) or general interest (animals).

4) When I finally give up and procreate, at least one of my children will be enrolled in go kart racing school's as early as possible. I hope to groom at least one to get into F1 racing. Then, when this fantasy comes true, I will aquire a retired F1 car and give it to my father. Hopefully by then he'll have agreed to get his eyes examined for new glasses, because I know he's going to try and drive it on the street at least once.

5) I'd still like to move to Arizona. Maybe its an ideal hope, but I fell in love with the area the one weekend I happened to be there, and now I have a vision for my dreams of humidity less, winterless weather.

6) I like the idea of winter but I'm not an actual fan of the reality. Something always attracted me to it's stark rigidity and coldness. I'd much rather be in the sun, and am incapable of thinking in cold weather. I think my interest in the word winter stems from the fact that I believed my middle name to be winter for a long time, when it actually meant spring. I was highly disapointed but refused to let go of this misconception as I was born in winter.

Well that's good enough for an entry. ;)

[music |Fort Minor]

Don't have the wedding dress pictures of Michelle on my computer yet but here are a few from that week among some others. All pictures taken by Becca(dasbecca.com) except for the Josh and I set. =)

Elias and the Denso

Before he even gets out of his travel tank Becca is snapping away:

Becca calls this my zoo tour guide shot, I have to agree:

Elias was a bit tentative first when it came to getting close to Denso:

They become friends:

Elias is now willing to pet Denso:

Elias now being theatrical about Denso not getting off the table:

Heheheh I REALLY like that picture, it cracks me up, and it makes me think of some of Michelle's poses.

Just a few of Denso:

Audrey and the Babes

I *heart* Addie!

Watching Michelle come out of the dressing room with The Dress:

Attempting to keep Addie happy while tryin on a bridesmaid dress and watching Michelle pose in front of the mirrors:
